What Is a SKU Number? (in amazon)
An SKU (stock keeping unit) is an identifier code used to identify and track a product.
- In Amazon:
- Every product in your inventory file must have a unique SKU.
- Every new SKU you upload to amazon results in the creation of a new record in the amazon catalog
- An existing SKU cannot be changed or reused.
- When creating a new product, you can create your own SKU or let amazon generate one automatically.
Where can I find my SKU?
- You’ll find your SKUs in the “Manage all inventory” section of your Amazon Celler Central.
- In the SKU column you’ll find your SKU for each product.
Let’s see if your Shopify and Amazon SKU match?
We are now going to check if you have matching skus in both shopify and Amazon. This is essential for connecting the Easy Tool App. After finding your SKUs in Amazon you shall look for your SKUs in Shopify.
- First find the SKU of the product you want to connect from Amazon. (Products => Click product => Scroll to inventory)
- Copy that SKU and go to Shopify.
- Go to products, then click on the product and scroll down until you find the SKU.
- If it matches then GREAT!
- If not, you’ll have to create something called a metafield.
What is a Meta Field?
A meta field allows you to save specialized information that isn’t usually captured in the Shopify admin. In this case we are using it to replace the SKU role as the identifier for this operation.
How to create a metafield?
- Go to settings => Custom Data => products
- In product Metafield definitions you click on "add definition"
- In Name you write "Amazon_SKU" and in "Select Type" you put “single line of text”
- Click save and the meta field is created.
- Now if you go back to your original product You’ll see that there is an Amazon SKU section at the bottom. Just paste the Amazon SKU.
- Now you have to disconect and re connect the app in the following way. Go to connect
- Select Product field import and select your created Metafield (Amazon_SKU) You'll have to make shure that all of your products have their SKUs in the metafields as shown before.
