Why are items not linking/matching after import?

Written by Juanita J

Question: My products imported, but they aren’t linking/matching in ToolE. What should I check?

Answer: Linking issues are usually caused by the item not being linked at the variant level, or the identifier used for linking not matching exactly.

Quick checks (linking/matching)

  1. The product/variant isn’t linked

  • If a Shopify product/variant is not linked to an Amazon FBM or FBA listing, ToolE can’t sync it.

  • What to do: Confirm the item appears as linked in the app (linking is done at the variant level when variants exist). If it’s missing, re-run linking / re-fetch/relink based on your setup.

  1. Your selected linking identifier doesn’t match exactly
If you link by SKU, the SKU must match exactly between Shopify and Amazon.

Common mismatch causes

  • Extra spaces (e.g., ABC-123 vs ABC-123 )

  • Different capitalization/formatting

  • Variant SKUs missing or duplicated

What to do

  • Verify the identifier you selected for linking (SKU / Barcode / Metafield / ASIN) is populated and consistent.

  • If SKUs don’t match, consider linking via Barcode or Metafields (depending on your plan/workflow).

  1. You changed fulfillment channel (FBM ↔ FBA)
Switching a product between FBM and FBA can cause the linked offer/record to change, which can make an item appear not linked temporarily.

What to do

  • Confirm whether the SKU is meant to be FBM, FBA, or both.

  • If you sell both, confirm whether you use separate SKUs for FBA vs FBM.

  • Allow time for the next catalog/link reconciliation, and re-link if needed.

If only some items linked

Usually, the ones that didn’t link are missing the identifier you chose (SKU/Barcode/Metafield/ASIN) or the value doesn’t match exactly.

Tip: Pick 2–3 non-linking examples and verify:

  • the identifier exists on the Shopify variant

  • it matches the Amazon side exactly

  • the item is intended to be FBM/FBA as configured
